Project Overview: Kids Helping Kids Charity Initiative
Background: Smile Dominica was founded in 2013 by Ayo Green, a mother inspired to give back to her community. What began with donating her son's toys and clothing expanded into a charitable organization with a mission to bring smiles to children's faces. The initiative gained momentum with support from neighbors, parents, businesses, and overseas donors.
Past Initiatives: During Christmas and Easter holidays, Smile Dominica distributed toys, clothing, food, and gifts to impoverished communities in Dominica. With the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria, the focus shifted to providing back-to-school supplies for children who lost everything. This initiative aimed to equip children with the tools and confidence to start the school year.
Current Focus: Smile Dominica welcomes various forms of support, including financial donations, goods donations (toys, clothing, food, school supplies), volunteering, fundraising, and consultations. The organization ensures transparency and effective use of donations, directing them towards supporting children's school needs, education projects, and community development.
Mission and Vision: The organization's vision is to engage children in Dominica to become global citizens and support less fortunate children in receiving education and essential comforts. By breaking the cycle of poverty, Smile Dominica aims to foster long-term sustainability and empower communities.
Stewardship and Transparency: Smile Dominica prioritizes responsible stewardship of funds and transparency in expenditure. With minimal overhead costs, the organization ensures that donations directly benefit the intended recipients, maximizing the impact of donors' contributions.
